ALL ABOUT ME

Hello, my name is Kathy Cavender.  I grew up in the Tom Bean/Howe area and graduated from Howe High School.  My husband, Paul, and I lived in Dallas while I attended college.  In 1998 I graduated from TWU with a degree in Elementary Education and a specialization in Early Childhood Development.  

After graduating we moved back to this area and settled in Van Alstyne.  I taught Pre-K and Kindergarten in Anna ISD for four years until my son, Zack, was born in 2002 and had the wonderful opportunity to be a stay-at-home mom for three years.  I enjoy spending time with my family and traveling during our school breaks.  In the past year we have dog-sledded in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and visited San Diego, California.  I also enjoy watching Zack master his karate skills a couple of evenings a week.

I returned to teaching in 2005 and have taught both First and Second grade in Van Alstyne.    It is my goal with my students to have a positive impact on their lives and help them achieve their full potential both academically and socially.  It is always rewarding to get hugs and smiles from my previous students and hearing how they have progressed.  I look forward to developing new relationships with my students this year and watching the cycle repeat itself once again.
